Fall Bourbon Shandy

As we ease our way into Autumn our thoughts turn to drinking dark spirits laced with fall spices. While we still can feel the sun at our backs, the evening chill wants for something a bit savory whilst we still cling to hopes for a few more weeks of warmth. This week’s cocktail is built on Bourbon and finished with beer. It satisfied the fall urges for strong drink while maintaining a certain summer freshness. Cheers!

Fall Bourbon Shandy

In a large goblet filled with ice add:

  • 1 Ounce Bourbon (any good dram will do- save your Pappy for sipping)
  • ½ Ounce Sweet Vermouth
  • ¼ Ounce Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • ¼ Ounce Spiced Honey Syrup*

Give this base a good stirring. Top with 4 Ounces +/- of a Good-Old American Lager (nothing fancy, we like Miller High Life). Stir again to combine… Enjoy

Spiced Honey Syrup

In a small saucepan add:

  • ¼ Cup of Honey
  • ¼ Cup of Water
  • ¼ Stick of Cinnamon (crushed)
  • 1 Clove
  • 1 Small Piece of Fresh Peeled Ginger (the size of a thumb nail)
  • 1 Allspice Berry (crushed)

Bring the heat up very slowly to a slight boil (stirring along the way). Shut off and let steep covered for 2 hours. Strain through a fine sieve into a sterile bottle (will keep refrigerated for 1 week).
