The Ultimate Pomegranate Martini

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon we share with you the Ultimate Pomegranate Martini. It is said that the first pomegranate was planted by Aphrodite, the goddess of love, fertility and beauty. The fruit has a long history of passion and temptation with many believing that it was the apple of original sin in the Garden of Eden. So, what is more appropriate, than a wonderful, stimulating cocktail made from this fruit of love?

The Ultimate Pomegranate Martini

  • Free the seeds from a whole pomegranate into a bowl.
  • Add ¼ cup of sugar
  • Add the juice of 1 lime
  • Add the juice of 1 lemon
  • Stir in 1 cup of your favorite premium Vodka

Cover and refrigerate the whole mixture to steep overnight.  The following day put everything in a blender and puree.  Strain the puree through a medium fine sieve pressing the pulp to extract everything except the seed hulls.

Put the mix in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.  Shake brutally until ice forms shards in the mix and your hands get frostbite.  Strain into a Martini Saucer.  Garnish with a few whole pomegranate seeds (they will sink to the bottom of the glass).

The fresh infusion of vodka and sweetened pomegranate puree is balanced by the citrus. There is an added dimension to the juice from the ground seed itself, adding a subtle bitter edge.  So if you have the patience to actually seed a pomegranate, give this recipe a try.  Fresh is worth it!
