The Manhattan Cocktail has hundreds of variations. It is a drink made from a dark base spirit embellished with Vermouth or some sort of semi-sweet Amaro and finished with bitters. Today’s rendition of the Manhattan employs the use of Calvados apple brandy. Normandy France is home to this wonderful aromatic spirit. Calvados has grades of quality by virtue of their age. For the Normand Manhattan we suggest using an entry level “Fine” or VSOP Calvados. The subtle apple aromas and flavors in Calvados make it a great foundation for our Normand Manhattan.
