Pumpkin Manhattan Cocktail

Today we share with you the obligatory fall pumpkin cocktail. While we often find these creations to be a bit too sweet for our tastes, today’s recipe for the Pumpkin Manhattan beautifully showcases Bourbon with just a hint of sweet. This variation of the classic Manhattan replaces the Vermouth with spiced pumpkin syrup. You can adjust the level of sweetness in the drink by adjusting the amount of pumpkin syrup to your own taste. It is a great cocktail and a perfect pre-dinner icebreaker for fall celebrations.

The Pumpkin Manhattan

In a shaker glass filled with ice add

  • 2 Ounces Well-Bred Bourbon (we like Noble Oak)
  • ¼ Ounce Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • ¾ Ounce of Pumpkin Syrup*
  • Dash of Creole bitters (optional)
  • Soda Water
  • Lemon Twist

Shake lightly and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh crushed ice.  Dash with Creole Bitters, Splash with Soda Water, Garnish with a Lemon Twist.

*Spiced Pumpkin  Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  •  1 cup light brown sugar
  • 6 oz pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

In a saucepan bring water and sugar to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer, add pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring until ingredients are well combined. Remove from heat, strain through a fine sieve discarding any pulp. Cool syrup and refrigerate. Syrup will keep for 7-10 days.
