The Florodora Cocktail

florodorashow

The Florodora Cocktail was created in 1900 and was named for the wildly successful Broadway comedy musical of the same name. In the show there was a sextet of girls known as the Florodora Girls who attracted a faithful audience.

It is a simple blend of Gin, Lime Juice, Raspberry Syrup or Liqueur and finished with Ginger Ale or Champagne. Ginger Ale is the original finish though Champagne (or sparkling wine) became an acceptable substitution. The recipe is as follows:

THE FLORODORA

Fill a Shaker Glass with Cracked Ice, add:

  • 1 1/2 Ounces of Good Gin
  • 1 Ounce of Lime Juice
  • 1 Ounce Raspberry Syrup (We Use Chambord Liqueur)

Shake and Pour into a Collins Glass.  Top Up with Either Ginger Ale or Sparkling Wine.  Garnish with a Lime Wedge or Orange and Cherry.
