Bodegas Ego Infinito 2012

Jumilla Spain is a region best known for it’s hot, dry & arid climate that produces intense red wines.  Many of the vines here are old and knotty, emerging from the scorched, cracked earth with very little semblance to the more romanticized vineyards of better known appellations.  These gnarly vines produce grapes of serious concentration, leading to wines that stain the palate with a single drop.
Today’s wine hails from Jumilla and comes from Bodegas Ego, a winery focused on harnessing the wild flavors known to the region.  Their small estate is planted to Monastrell, Syrah & Cabernet with many of their vineyards dating back over 50 years old.  A quality producer across many price points, among them is their flagship effort dubbed ‘Infinito’.  Translating directly to ‘infinite’ this wine lives up to it’s namesake, a combination of Monastrell & Cabernet aged in 18 months of oak barrels…once in your glass, the aromas present a whirlwind of fruit, earth and spice.
Recently, this wine pulled down a 91 point review from Wine Spectator and we couldn’t agree more with the score or the tasting notes.  The one thing we couldn’t stand for was the recommended retail.  Suggested to retail for $75, we believed this wine was tremendous and needed to be in front of YOU, our customer.  With that said, we had to present you a value.  Low and behold, we were able to get the price down to a mere $21.99 per bottle (70% off SRP).  Even better is the case price of just $18.69, saving you an additional 15%.  At just 210 cases available for the entire United States market, we didn’t get as much as we’d like, but that doesn’t mean you should wait to get as much as you can!
