Wine of the Week: Viberti Dolba 2012

When talking about Piedmont (a wine growing region in the North of Italy) the conversation generally sways towards the high-end wines put out by top producers in Barolo and Barbareso. Many, however, gloss over the incredible values that can be found in the other regions in Piedmont. Specifically Langhe, which for me delivers the most bang for your buck. And this red is no exception.

Viberti Winery was founded in the early 1900’s. Antonio Viberti bought a plot of land that included and inn and the farms which produced wine specifically for guests. With larger plantings of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera developing along with time, Viberti became a revered wine maker in Barolo.

Their “Dolba” is no different. This blend of Dolcetto and Barbera is a great glowing red that produces aromas of red fruit and plums. Flavors of plum, raspberry, and a twinge of earth all flow through the smooth tannins and lingering finish. This would be fantastic with pizza! And for just $14.99, this can be an economical pairing as well. Stop in and try this fantastic find!
